SOUCEK’S Blog: A look back at the most interesting and random podcast news of the week

It’s been a busy week here at PWPodcasts. While we’re still very much in a growing phase, we’re up and running and featuring a lot of great, new content on a daily basis.

Just over the course of the past seven days, Edge and Christian, Eric Bischoff, Jim Ross, Sam Roberts, Chris Jericho, X-Pac and others all had their shows recapped here. By next weekend we’ll have new episode rundowns for all of those podcasts, and a few more should be popping up as well. Stay tuned!

After reading over everything on the site for the past week, I wanted to take a look back at all the stories we posted, and make note of some of the most interesting and random news we heard from our favorite wrestling personalities and their guests:

-Kurt Angle noted on Talk Is Jericho that he believes the best work of his career was in TNA. While that may sound surprising, he actually wrestled in the smaller promotion for a couple years longer than he did in WWE. He also had fantastic matches with Samoa Joe, A.J. Styles and Desmond Wolfe (Nigel McGuinness) that certainly rivals his biggest showdowns while under the employment of Vince McMahon. It’s just a shame that only a fraction of the viewing audience saw it.

-Who would have guessed that the idea for Beth Phoenix and Santino Marella’s pairing came from the gigantic Eddie Murphy flop Norbit? (Edge and Christian Pod of Awesomeness)

-Bill Watts wanted to push Barry Windham into retirement at 32, and have Shane Douglas, Dustin Rhodes and, huh…Erik Watts as his top babyfaces headed into 1993? Somehow, I don’t think that would have gone over so well. It’d be fascinating to peek into an alternate universe where it actually happened and see how Erik vs. Vader at Starrcade would have fared. Also, Tony Schiavone calling his co-hosts “slap d**ks” will never not sound insanely weird to me. (What Happened When)

-Eric Bischoff’s thoughts on bullying weren’t overly surprising, but still disappointing. Defaulting to “people are over-sensitive these days” type thinking doesn’t accomplish anything. Isn’t progress in that respect a good thing? Perhaps people aren’t more easily offended now, maybe it’s just that society has grown up a bit, and those who are bullied now have a platform to share their stories. He also said he didn’t experience hazing in WWE or see any of it. Well…it’s probably because he’s Eric Bischoff, a man who was briefly the most powerful man in the industry just a few years earlier. Plus, he didn’t really do house shows at that time either. (Bischoff on Wrestling)

-Madusa revealed she had a crush on Steve Austin years ago. Austin once confessed he had a crush on Ivory. So many missed connections involving The Rattlesnake! (The Ross Report)

-To double down on the bullying issue, which is the biggest story in WWE right now, Sam Roberts’ take was also pretty lackluster. He threw out the “until we know what happened” line which…well, we’re never going to fully know what happened. That goes with pretty much any controversy. But it seems pretty likely Mauro Ranallo was picked on by a guy who has a well-documented history of bullying others. With Sam’s growing connection to WWE it’s understandable why he wouldn’t want to jeopardize that relationship, but you have to believe deep down he knows JBL would treat him better than he would an announcer he sat next to every week. (Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast)

-If Justin Roberts had to work for Triple H or Kevin Dunn for the next 20 years, who would he pick? “He would quit.” (PWTorch Livecast Interview Thursday)

This is just a small sampling of what we have at PWPodcasts. Check back daily for new reviews from the biggest wrestling podcasts out there, and for frequently posted news stories and quotes from around the industry.

Thanks for reading, and for the great response so far. I’ll be back next weekend with more podcast notes and news from the week.
